Ski Portillo Blanketed by 45 Inches of Snow Overnight

Winter has arrived in Chilé, where the ski season exists oppositely to our North American one.

Ski Portillo, a ski resort in the Andes mountains of Chile, just announced that things are kicking off in spectacular fashion with a dumping of nearly four feet of snow in the last 36 hours.

Another look at the snowfall.

According to a press report from officials at Ski Portillo, the resort has received 113 cms (~45 inches) of snow since Thursday morning (June 13th, 2024).

“The storm is supposed to take a break today and restart tomorrow for the next few days,” but “predictions are for several feet.”

The resort is opening for daily operations on June 20th (less than a week from today). Officials at Ski Portillo said that “although now it’s hard to say what will be available, it’s likely most of our terrain will be.”

No matter, the resort will be open this weekend, June 15th and June 16th, thanks to plentiful early-season storms. This is the third and final season preview weekend before the resort opens for daily skiing and riding.

For those in Chilé, this may seem like the longest week ever. For us here in North America, we’re stoked for you. Really.
